my inner fat kid

is staging a revolution in my body.

all i can think about is the

cream cheese frosted sugar cookie
from
smart cookie

(quite possibly the most exciting utah export since donny & marie)

if you're in the land of utah, i hear the american fork location is superior
(that's the only location i have frequented.... a lot.... in 2 days.)
note: the sugar cookie is the superior treat. the other flavors just don't turn me on.

i fear i'm losing my fat kid/skinny kid battle...
and this just supplied the enemy with fatal amunition!

rosita (who needs a blog) and i have been soul sisters since our days at
"dear old NYU."
(go violets!)

we braved many an insane rehearsal,
college binge, audition tear,
out-of-town-show adventure, boy-related heartbreak,
dad-related cancer meltdown,
and have giggled-to-tears too many times to count.

it doesn't matter how long it has been since we've seen each other,
we pick up right where we left off.
that's what soul sisters do.

isn't she the most stunning bride?!
i'm still dying over that dress--
note the killer pleating!

i wish i could drum up some classic old college pix.

* * *

Where do you live?

Saratoga Springs, NY

what is your favorite color?
Red to wear. Green to make me feel at home. Yellow to motivate. Everything in my house is some combination of these three.

What is your favorite city?
Florence, Italy ah...Firenze

What is your favorite thing to cook?
Italian wedding soup. I love making the tiny meatballs! (Is that symbolic in some way?)

What beauty product can you not live without?
mascara

What is your favorite nyc restaurant?

Ooh...I'm outta the loop. Used to love Patsy's.

What is one thing you can’t help but splurge on?
Additions to my wedding china
collection. Lenox Bellina (in silver.)

What is your favorite word?
I like to make them up. Jibbie (any small carbohydrate-loaded snack.) Floo-floo (a stand-in for someone's name you can't immediately recall, sometimes a girl prettier than you whose name you are pretending you can't remember.)

What movie can you recite by heart?

Grease and The Princess Bride

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
go to the farmer's market, get dressed up for church (late church)

Which tv show do you makes you happiest?
Smallville.

What is your favorite beverage?
Hot chocolate or Dr. Pepper depending on the temperature.

What is one trend that totally victimized you?
Wynona Ryder's pixie cut caused the great Senior Picture tragedy of '99.

If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would you chose?
Some beautiful wealthy British do-gooder with a title. I want to hear myself talk like that and have as a job only whatever philanthropy I feel like doing that day. "Duchess Kate Something-or-other."

What is your favorite comfort food?
Ice cream, the more crunchy additions, the better.

What famous person do you think you most resemble?
More than one person has
told me Celine Dion...seriously.

What is your favorite adventure that we've shared?

All that had to do with wooing Michael Kayne. Just happening to be in the right place at the right time in full make-up. Mysteriously reading whatever overly intellectual book he was into at the moment. Shooting double daggers at "Melody" and thinking up hundreds of ways she was NOT right for him. Kissing up to Simpkins so we could get invited to any party Kayne might be at...the list could easily continue. And my wedding day :)

(oooh goodNIGHT!! kayne and carrie, i HOPE you're not reading this.....
melody?! i totally forgot about those escapades! remember when we went to his house in CT for the weekend?! i thought we were so grown up and groovy and collegey)

What was the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Who gave it to you? Not so much advice but permission to accept a decision I had already made. My dad once told me that things are the way they are because they can't be any other way. (Pertaining to me deciding to move upstate with my husband instead of breaking it off to stay in NYC or move home to St. Louis. The point was that the alternative to being with him was not being with him and that was impossible.)

What three possessions do you value most?

Tie tacks and a pocket knife that belonged to my grandpa, a ring that belonged to my childhood best friend's mother, a necklace that belonged to my husband's grandmother. Any gifts from people who can't give you any more. (This is a downer but the truth.)

What three non-material things do you value most?
The respect of my husband,
approval from my parents (even when I don't need it,) and my sister's friendship.

(beautifully said. i love that.)

When was the last time you told someone you loved them? Who was it?
An hour ago. My very snuggly husband.

yay, ro!

always profound AND funny.

thank you!

i love this woman so much!

life is tasty

at banff,
we loved a film about abstract expressionist, gino hollander,
who was a wwII ski trooper turned artist in his later years.

he's this quirky, 80+ yr old, oxygen-tank-toting, artist who paints with crusty brushes...
not knowing where the painting is going. never directing it....

he says, "life is tasty"

and he mostly paints women because we're most alive and active.

i love that.

someday, i will own an original gino hollander.

zip-to-shorts-pants, i really really loved it.
my palms were sweaty the entire time and all i could think was....

i could never date one of those crazies with a death wish.

i'm too much of a worrier.

rickshaw rollers

finding a cab for a cripple is often challenging.....
so worthina and i took a pedi-cab trip (like a bunch of touristas)
after i saw guys and dolls.
(a whopping 4 block trip!)

we were terrified and giggling like absolute fools.
... not to mention, freezing our baguettes off!!

sheer terror in the eyes and port authority in the background!

cabs whizzing by as our "driver" weaved in and out of traffic

our life is in your hands, man.

guenevere rodriguez

motie has been a HUGE fan of
guenevere rodriguez's
hand-made jewelry for years.

she found her at the weekend outdoor market on prince street (btwn mott and mulberry)
and wears her simple gold hoops and necklaces daily.

gR (who is the most darling gal)
has FINALLY opened a store in williamsburg and i can't wait to see it!

until then....

i MUST get my mitts on
this

which was featured in PEOPLE

i'm obsessed.
pretty sure i need it today.

quoted again...

tazita recommended that i be interviewed for an article
focusing on the mormon-blogging phenomenon...

pretty cool to be quoted next to famous blog superstars!

article found via religious dispatches.

ugh. remember when i had HAIR!?

women tell NOTHING!

bo-ring!
bo-ring!
bo-ring!

the woman didn't get into anything juicy.
we had MAJOR material with these gals and they glossed right over side-burns sandy, crazy stalker, and potty-mouthed lacrosse coach.

thankfully they nailed natalie!

bored of trista/ryan and their spawn.

the only thing that made me remotely excited was the
talk of jillian as the next bachelorette

.....but geeky chicago fred hooking up with that sweet girl?
adorable.

stoked for next week.

who is your pick?

the girl in the red scarf

i've been wearing this scarf too much.

i love it.

he got it right....

even BEFORE my not-so-subtle blog hint
 about hating roses,
these girls were already ordered for
valentine's day

peonies, tulips, babies breath-free!!
heaven.

floral cousins, what's the name of the black centered beauties?

i loved them.

thanks dubya!

anybody have a shout wipe?

e takes me to the loveliest restaurants.
i'm such a lucky girl.

i really loved crispo.

i tried pretty much everything on the menu so when my
spaghetti and meatballs (what?! am i a 4 yr old?!) arrived,
i barely made a dent.

i asked for it to be packaged to take home
then dived into their awesome pot de creme and creme brulee
(always room for dessert)

upon returning from the ladies room, i plopped my booty onto the bench seat.
(pole vaulted, really, because i was still on crutches)

and RIGHT onto my waiting spaghetti and-a-meat-a-balls!!

you just can't take me anywhere......

(i live for new products)
and
this is my favorite (and surprisingly least expensive) cleanser....

keep em separated!

never thought i'd say this.....

is even better than the diorshow original formula.

lasts forever. separates. curls. flake-free/smudge-free.

worth it.

the brain-squeezer

dear friends,

i'm hoping this won't offend (i understand we all have different taste)
.... we're friends, right?
you like me for my honesty, no?

ok....

upon returning to the U.C. (utah county), i have witnessed an alarming new trend:

the giant brain squeezer

turns out, otherwise stylish mommies squeeze their children's growing noggins into these horribly uncomfortable looking flower bouquets.

why?!?!

what happened to the days when babies were allowed to be bald?!

if that ludicrous bow/flower on your child's headband is bigger
than her face.......you've gone too far.

if the size of the bow on her head exceeds the bows on the packages neath your tree....
you need help

trust me.
nothing is more precious than a beautiful un-bedazzled/headbanded baby.

as a child whose baby pictures spanned the 80's, i'm no stranger to bizarre baby trends.... however....
motie never stooped so low as to plant a GIANT FLOWER on my tiny head.
my brain was for growing ideas... not plastic flowers.

*the only way i can possibly justify this tacky trend is if your child is so horrifyingly hard- to- look- at that you desperately need a distraction from its angelic face.

please.
let's stop the madness.

your baby will thank me.

the subletter auditions

auditioning subletters was a pretty hilarious experience....

my favorite:

a 55+ yr old borderline fugly banker came to view the apartment.

he: wow! there's a lot of girl s*#t in here!

me: well, yeah... i'm a girl. this is where i live.

he: i'm just worried if i bring a woman home.... i don't want her to think i'm a f#*!

me: .... as long as you're not wearing my high heels, i'm sure there'll be no problem there...
(a bigot, yes.... you're not cute enough to be gay )

he: here's the deal. i'm separated from my wife (no kidding...)
and i need a place to.... you know.

(PLEASE no sex on my virgin mattress!!)

i immediately decide he will NOT be "...you knowing" in my apartment.
***
later, via email

he: i actually found a place that was longer term so that's better for me....but when you're back in the city, i'd love to take you for dinner, drinks, whatever!
call me!

does
"whatever" = "... you know?"

no vacancy.

set your DVR

is back!!

remember how i told you i wanted to be friends with jill?

well.. we are.
she gives the best advice.

bobby and ally are terribly cool too.....

can't wait to watch all the drama i've heard about!

Monday, February 16, 2009

ugh.... seriously? seriously?

sick.

i don't even want to watch anymore....

jason made the ultimate tb mistake: he got rid of the ONE girl who challenged him.
{but-sick feelings about the dream revelation, jill}

cheerleader?
that tacky tacky dress with the uncurled ponytail? why do i feel like she's just trying too hard?!

and
 byu co-ed?
STOP IT with the heavy silver smoky eye!!

sub-par, jase.
totally sub-par.

i'm pretty sure i got nodes from screaming at the telly.

discover ME!!

when i was about 9 or 10,
i discovered that this "donny" who called our house to talk to dad and who was often around with his kids to play
was actually a famous person.

{i only clued into it after sitting backstage on the GIANT monitors during the
  soldier of love tour with the waite cousins}
Bold
i wonder if he noticed that every time he called for the next 3-4 years, the phone call would go something like this:

donny: hi nattle! it's donny! is your dad there?
me: um.... yeah.... one moment please {in my most professional actress voice}

{at which point, i would put the phone on the table (instead of on hold
and continue to BELT at the top of my lungs,
"the sun'll come ooooooouuut tomorrow!!!"}

me: dad. phone.

just desperate to be discovered.

i'm so embarrassed for myself.

happy day of LoVe!!

gone are the days when i'd refer to this holiday as
"happy singles awareness day"!

i believe that

love, actually, is all around us.

may you find {or keep} earth-shattering love in 2009!

love dimitri style

found here

i certainly know how brangelina feels.....

i'm borderline terrible at reading/commenting on other people's blogs... {sorry}

but every now and then i'll pop around
{its fun for me to get to know YOU too....}

blend, stephanie
wrote the most hilarious post {complete with a video}
after i commented on her blog.

it totally made my day!

i miss my best friend.

i'm sure stellie nugget is perfectly happy
 staying with her grandparents,
where she can run free in the back yard and torture her cousin, zippy....

but i miss her.

i miss our walks.
i miss her stealing my socks then playing with them for 20 min.
i miss her stealing my clothes.
i miss her torturing me when i eat.
i miss her trying to eat my rose bud lip balm.
i miss her bed time snuggles.
i miss her sassy attitude.
i miss her escorting me to the laundry room.
i miss her licking my tears when i cry.
my house is so lonesome without her.

now i sound like a crazy dog lady....
crap.

i still miss her..
i guess i AM a crazy dog lady.

love you out loud.

country week continues......

it's was dear nanna's birthday yesterday so the b6 posse donned our
s*#%-kickers and moseyed on down to our neighborhood

for some texas bbq

and birthday candles

yay, nanna!!! i'm so glad you were born!!!!

then we headed to "the garden"
for a good ole fashioned
jeska simpson |rascal flats
hoopla.

note: jeska's legs are gorgeous and thin....
she is, however, hard to listen to (why are you SCREAMING!)
and i was a titch concerned after she blew thru her set then could barely speak....
bloody vocal chords, jess?
yay, america!
(ali/kar, you should know, amber and i kept each other giggling
doing baby hands and "i like chasing cars" thru out the entire concert-ij)
joedon (or whatever his hillbilly name is...)
is darling.
those boys were great.
the b6 gang and kiesha

after party at johnny utah's.
pretty much my favorite bar-not cause utah is in the name-
but because there is a bull riding pit in the center of the room!
yeeehaw!

amber and xtina livid that xtina was (accidentally) groped by a nypd off-duty officer.

hey! take it where you can get it, girl!
;)

serious mom-bobs.
the b6 troupe and cameron

note: crutching thru a bar turned out to be a major guy magnet.
if you need attention, consider heading to your nearest medical store.
pick up a crutch or jazzy and
 voila!!
instant conversation starter!
