sunday blues and prayer

i often get the sunday blues.
especially today.
i really want a dad hug.

i miss my family terribly and long to feel the spirit and go to church.
sadly, my rehearsals will prohibit church attendance for the next few weeks so i try to supplement that need with temple sessions and reading church materials.

this month's home teaching message from lds.org really hit home.

pres. eyring spoke of leaving his dad on a busy street corner in nyc.
been thru that a time or two..... it never gets easier.

"I can promise you that no joy will exceed what you will feel if a child of yours prays in the hour of need and receives such an answer. You will someday be separated from him or her, with a longing in your heart to be reunited. A loving Heavenly Father knows that this longing would last forever unless we are reunited as families with Him and His Beloved Son. He put in place all that His children will need to have this blessing. To find it, they must ask of God for themselves, nothing doubting, as the boy Joseph Smith did.

My dad was concerned that day in New York because he knew, as my mother knew, that the only real tragedy would be if we were apart forever. That is why they taught me to pray. They knew we could be together forever only with God’s help and with His assurances. As you will do, they taught prayer best by example."

i couldn't be more grateful for my parents example of loving, trusting, and believing in prayer.

happy sunday to you.

Beautiful thoughts! It must be hard not to be able to attend your meetings, but the blessings you'll get from your efforts at the temple and outside of church will help you. Thanks for sharing Pres. Eyring's wisdom with us!

I heart Pres. Eyring... his words always hit home for me. That sucks that you won't be able to make it to church for a while... I hate it when I have to miss sacrament meeting. But at least you have a temple nearby!!

I remember those Sunday blues feelings, it was always my loneliest day in college.

Teaching prayer is so much harder than I thought. My five-year-old refuses to pray. I don't get it. I always begged to be able to pray when I was a kid, I can't figure out why he won't do it. It's so hard. I want him to have that relationship, and it's so much easier if he's in the habit now. But forcing him to do it doesn't work either. So hard. Loved this lesson though.
